SyIT Secure funding for Xeon v3 buildout.

We're pleased to announce that after several months of discussions with various financial providers and banks, South Yorkshire IT have secured funding for the latest Xeon LGA 1150 Haswell technology. The money will be invested in top of the range Supermicro systems with Xeon E3-1230v3 processors (Current Gen), providing us with complete control over our systems and lowering our monthly expenditure. The new systems will be used for new orders and eventually replace the hardware we have in place currently.

Iomart buys Redstation for £6.6m.

The UK hosting giant Iomart has bought out Redstation for £6.6m. Find out more about the sale and what it means for South Yorkshire IT.

Glasgow cloud computing company Iomart has bought Hampshire-based rival Redstation for £6.6m in cash and shares.
A further £1.5m is payable depending on Redstation achieving profit targets. Redstation manages thousands of servers for clients in more than 50 countries and had a turnover of £5.2m last year. Chief executive of Iomart Angus MacSween said: "We are delighted to complement our continued organic growth through the acquisition of Redstation."

He added: "The addition of Redstation will consolidate our position as the leading player in the dedicated server market in the UK.

"Redstation's customers deliver a wide variety of cloud applications and services from the physical servers they buy from them, further underpinning iomart's strategic goal of providing the 'picks and shovels' of the cloud environment through the provision of the complex infrastructure required."

Iomart has made a number of acquisitions over the past few years and has previously said that cloud computing was in a period of consolidation.

cPanel install guide.

This is a quick guide which covers a standard installation of cPanel/WHM on a CentOS 6 operating system. We assume you already have basic knowledge of managing your server remotely via SSH.

Step 1

Login to your server remotely via SSH. The details required for this can be found within your service activation email.

Step 2

Its good practice to update your system before starting any installation work. You can do this by running the following command.

yum update -y

Step 3

Next, we must install perl, otherwise the cPanel installation will refuse to run.

yum install perl

Step 4

The final three steps will begin the cPanel installation, at which point you may want to leave the terminal and grab a drink or something to eat, the installation will continue unattended and can take up to one hour dependent on the performance of your system (RAM available etc). Run the following commands one by one.

cd /home (Takes you to the home directory)
wget -N http://httpupdate.cpanel.net/latest (Downloads the required installer)
sh latest (Launches the installation process)

Step 5

Once the installation is complete, visit http://your-ip:2087 to setup cPanel/WHM. Where your-ip represents the dedicated IP address of your VPS.
